Affectionately known as Ibhayi, die Baai, or simply
The Bay,
Nelson Mandela Bay
is steeped in both culture and history. |
|
As long ago as 1576 this magnificent stretch of coast was
given the name of Bahia de Lagoa by the Portuguese navigator Manuel de
Mesquita Perestrelo. After the landing of the 1820 Settlers the acting
governor of the Cape, Sir Rufane Donkin named the growing settlement
Port Elizabeth in memory of his wife.
We have incorporated early Port Elizabeth photo’s as
themes in our rooms - |
